Mixxx DJ Setup Guide for MCR Bee Radio

Use this guide to configure Mixxx for live broadcasting to MCR Bee Radio through Citrus3. Audio files and MP3 uploads remain managed inside Citrus3.

What is Mixxx?

Mixxx is free DJ software that allows presenters to mix music live and broadcast directly to MCR Bee Radio using Citrus3.

Download Mixxx

Download Mixxx from the official website, install it, then open Mixxx.

Citrus3 Connection Details

Use the live DJ details provided by the MCR Bee Radio DJ Manager. Your MP3s/playlists for broadcast are added and controlled inside Citrus3; MCRBee stores playlist notes and slot details only.

Step-by-Step Setup

Open Mixxx

Open Mixxx on your computer.

Open Preferences

Go to Options → Preferences.

Go to Live Broadcasting

In the left menu, click Live Broadcasting.

Create a New Connection

Click Create new connection and name it MCR Bee Radio.

Enter Server Details

Fill in the fields exactly as provided by MCR Bee Radio.

Type: Icecast 2
Host: s5.citrus3.com
Port: 7394
Login: djharper@mcrbee.com
Password: ********
Mount: /djharper-at-mcrbeecom

Encoding Settings

Bitrate: 128 kbps
Format: MP3
Channels: Stereo

Enable Automatic Reconnect

Enable automatic reconnect: On
Reconnect period: 5 seconds
Maximum retries: 10

Save Settings

Click Apply, then click OK.

Going Live

  1. Load your music: Add your tracks into Mixxx and load them onto Deck 1 and Deck 2.
  2. Check your microphone: Go to Options → Preferences → Sound Hardware and select your microphone or audio interface.
  3. Start broadcasting: Go to Options → Enable Live Broadcasting. Mixxx will show the broadcast as connected when successful.

How AutoDJ Switches to Live DJ

When the DJ connects successfully, Citrus3 automatically switches from AutoDJ to the live DJ stream.

When the DJ disconnects, AutoDJ resumes automatically.

Live DJ → AutoDJ

Going Off Air

  1. Stop your final track.
  2. Go to Options.
  3. Untick Enable Live Broadcasting.
  4. Wait for Citrus3 to return to AutoDJ.

Troubleshooting

Mixxx says “Can’t connect to streaming server”

Check:

  • Host is correct.
  • Port is correct.
  • Username is correct.
  • Password is correct.
  • Mount point is correct.
  • DJ account is enabled.

Important: The password shown in Citrus3 as your-password is only a placeholder. Use the actual DJ password supplied by MCR Bee Radio.

Recommended Audio Level

Keep your audio out of the red. Aim for -6 dB to avoid distortion on air.
